The Modern Period starts circa 1800 CE and goes to the present. This era has seen the Industrial Revolution, the Victorian Age, and imperialism. Germany and Italy unified their nations, while Latin American and African countries gained their independence. The world had wars up the wazoo: the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War, the Spanish Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War … The list goes on.

In the art world, we’ve entered the period of the “isms.” Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Pointillism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Cubism, Surrealism … Well, you get it.

Strap in, the Modern Period is going to be a bumpy ride.
